Overview

Salary Range: 122,528-$205,915

 

The Senior Database Engineer is responsible for all activities related to database applications and the corresponding support systems of the Company. The senior DBE is expected to implement and configure appropriate monitoring solutions, so potential database issues can be identified and corrected before they occur. The senior DBE is also expected to perform complex tasks and solve high-level issues across all databases, including on-premise, cloud VMs, and PaaS implementations. This position includes the responsibilities of proposing new technical solutions to address both infrastructure and business needs, as well as creating the necessary documentation for items such as cost estimates, justifications, architecture, implementation, rollback scenarios, disaster recovery and risk mitigation. The Senior Database Engineer will be a technical lead in projects and meetings, carry a positive and constructive attitude, and be expected to complete tasks in a timely manner with little management oversight. 

Responsibilities

  • Expertise of database management in an Enterprise environment  
  • Right-sizing of databases/database servers and provide determinations for capacity planning 
  • Implementation and support of database recovery and high availability solutions 
  • System health monitoring and proactive correction of issues  
  • Improve performance and efficiency of database solutions, backup operations, disaster recovery and high availability 
  • Routine database integrity checks via automation
  • Creation of jobs, stored procedures, and other database activities as needed  
  • Control of security of the database systems and how users interact with the data 
  • Remain informed of security vulnerabilities and remediate where necessary 
  • Keep databases patched and current on cumulative updates 
  • Upgrade database versions to stay current in lifecycle
  • Migration of database (either engine change or platform change)
  • Showcase leadership qualities 
  • Technical Lead in projects 
  • Propose new technical solutions 
  • Ability to plan and execute implementations of new applications and systems  
  • Provide high-level support for database related issues 
  • Maintain database infrastructure for company’s Business Intelligence needs 
  • SSIS and SSRS processes and procedures  
  • Replication 
  • On-call duty
  • Mentor DevOps and System Engineers to handle database tickets, recognize recurring issues, and become familiar with database backup/restore processes 
  • Share research and findings with other DBAs throughout the NYK group to establish cohesiveness 
  • Maintains documentation, inventory, standards, and procedures 
  • Ability to travel up to 30% as well as work a Hybrid Schedule as required by company policy.

Qualifications

  • A four-year degree is desirable but not mandatory; candidates with broad, proven experience managing and administering multiple database engines (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL) will be strongly considered.
  • A minimum of 10 years performing DBA duties with increasing level of autonomy is required.
  • Experience of different platforms (on-prem and clouds).
  • Experience of databases migrations (both platform and cross engines).
  • Experience of automatic provisioning of databases (Infrastructure as Code).
  • implementing CI/CD practices for database deployments, including automation of schema changes, version control, and integration with DevOps pipelines.
  • Experience in the logistics industry, maintaining databases for TMS, WMS, and OMS systems.
  • Experience in a multinational, multilingual setup. Multiple spoken languages is a plus.
