Overview

Position Summary

 

The Senior Manager, Solution Development is responsible for managing the design, development and presentation of Customer-facing 4PL, LLP and managed service solutions across the Yusen Logistics Supply Chain Solutions service portfolio including Origin/Destination Management, Domestic Transportation, and Container Management for the Retail, Automotive, and Healthcare Industrial Verticals. The primary focus areas of the role include:

  • Working with potential and existing Americas and global Customers to understand financial, operational and technical requirements of requests
  • Coordinating across Yusen to incorporate Customer requirements into workable operational, technical and commercially sound solutions leveraging People, Process and Technology elements
  • Design and develop value-based responses and/or proposals for Customer presentation, including Value Assessments, qualified Business Cases and overall Return on Investment

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead Yusen business opportunity responses to Customer requests (RFI, RFQ, RFP and internal engagements)
  • Provide regular project updates to senior management stakeholders (project status, effort, timeline, deliverables, financial forecasts)
  • Act as the primary point of contact for assigned Customers during the Solution Development phase of engagement,
  • Actively coordinate and align Solution Development activity with Business Development and Key Account teams for critical Customer engagements
  • Facilitate Customer workshops as part of Solution Development cycle when appropriate to create a positive working relationship, further collective understanding of requirements, deliverables, and anticipated outcomes
  • Collaborate across the Yusen organization (e.g., Operations, Legal, Quality Management, IT) to create and/or assemble Customer proposals in response to formal market requests (RFI, RFQ, RFQ)
  • Engage with Solution Engineering resources to evaluate Customer-provided data in support of opportunity and business case development
  • Quantify the potential value of a proposed solution through a projected business case
  • Ensure internal management process adherence (CRM, Quality, Compliance, Commercial approvals) for all opportunities managed
  • Present Solution Proposals to Customers

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or related area; MBA a plus
  • Supply certifications a plus (CSCMP, APICS, SCOR, PMI, etc)
  • Minimum 5 years experience supporting new business proposals in a Supply Chain related field (logistics, transportation, warehousing, distribution)

 

Required Hard Skills

  • Basic understanding of Supply Chain software applications (TMS, WMS, Visibility, Analytics)
  • General familiarity with project management principles
  • General familiarity with Six Sigma, Kaizen or other similar principles
  • Proficiency with office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • High proficiency with PowerPoint
  • Expert level command of English language (spoken and written); familiarity with Japanese language a plus

 

Required Soft Skills

  • Strong communication and group facilitation skills
  • Comfortable communicating with senior audiences (internal and customer-based)
  • Virtual team leadership (project-based teams)
  • Highly organized, and a self-starter
  • High level of creativity and ability to communicate ideas and concepts effectively to multiple levels

 

Other Preferred Skills

  • Understanding of logistics functions including but not limited to Supply Chain Management, different modes of transportation (Air, Ocean, Intermodal, FTL, LTL, Drayage, Parcel) including the application of fuel and accessorials, warehousing services, and the service offerings of LLPs, 3PLs and 4PLs.
  • Understanding of the structure, setup, and function of Transportation Management Systems (TMS).

 

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel, sometimes overnight, as required (<15%).
  • Ability to work five (5) days per week for at least eight (8) hours, and occasionally longer.
